Blockchain-Enabled Authentication and Key Exchange for Enhancing User Privacy and Data Confidentiality in Smart Homes
Sarra Cherbal · 2024
A smart home is a popular Internet of Things (IoT) application where household devices connected to the internet offer various intelligent services to home users. However, given the personal nature of our homes, ensuring secure communication between home devices and the server becomes essential when exchanging data and commands. Therefore, this paper introduces a protocol of authentication and key exchange that leverages blockchain technology to enhance privacy and data confidentiality in IoT smart homes. The protocol is designed with consideration for the resource limitations of IoT devices. The security analysis conducted using Scyther, along with the performance analysis, demonstrate the robustness of our protocol against well-known attacks while minimizing associated costs.
