Internet of Things (IoT) deployments experience dynamic wireless connectivity, due to nodes mobility and poor coverage. Therefore, data collection in such dynamic networks is challenging and can't be efficiently supported by traditional networks. Named Data Networking (NDN), Delay/Disruption Tolerant Networking (DTN) architectures and the combined NDN-over-DTN (NoD) scheme are endorsed by the research community to address this issue, since they provide performance and reliability benefits to dynamic IoT networks. In this work we present a comprehensive performance comparison of these solution, in the context of dynamic IoT networks. The emulation results showed that NDN is the most prominent solution for stationary networks with limited packet loss, DTN shows adequate reliability in all cases, while the combined NoD scheme prevails for highly-disruptive stationary and mobile networks.
