Effective Management for Resource Utilization in Cloud Environments

Deeksha Verma, Sakshi Sharma, Kiran Bala, Rini Saxena · 2024

Resource management is important in data centers for cloud computing (CC) and is mostly influenced by the workload of the applications. IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service), SaaS (Software as a Service), and PaaS (Platform as a Service) are just a few of the services that CC provides, that give access to users of cloud to network, compute and storage resources using a pay-perusage model. The management of overload/underload, resource waste, load balancing, Quality-of-Service violations, VM migrations, and many other challenging circumstances are dealt with through resource allocation. Virtual machine placement (VMP) is a technique which is used to map virtual machines to physical machines, allowing the physical machines to be used as effectively as possible without interfering with the virtual machines that are already running. It considerably reduces energy usage and provides a list of active VM migrations that must be finished in order to reach the perfect solution. The ineffective VMP raises the total operational costs of the data centre by squandering resources and using excessive amounts of electricity. This article provides a thorough examination of cloud resource management procedures. The analysis covers fundamental problems with the inefficient distribution of physical resources and provides a conceptual framework for resource management as well as a classification of current machine learning-based resource allocation techniques. The usage of machine learning-based cloud resource management solutions is then further examined. The use of machine learning-based solutions to cloud resource management is then looked into more detail. The study’s final portion looks at several future issues, new research areas, and resource management in cloud systems.
