ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) spoofing is a common attack technique used by malicious actors to intercept and manipulate network traffic. This attack method entails the transmission of falsified ARP messages to other devices within the network, leading them to direct their traffic toward the attacker’s machine instead of the intended recipient. Preventing and detecting ARP spoofing is crucial for maintaining the security and integrity of a network. Without proper protection, attackers can gain unauthorized access to sensitive information, steal data, or launch more sophisticated attacks. Over the past few years, several strategies have been devised to minimize the threat of ARP spoofing attacks. These techniques range from simple methods such as MAC address filtering to more advanced solutions such as cryptographic protocols and machine learning-based algorithms. The purpose of this survey article is to evaluate the existing ways of identifying and combating ARP spoofing attacks. It will examine the advantages and disadvantages of each technique and establish their actual usefulness in real-world settings. By providing a comprehensive overview of the current research in this area, this paper aims to help network administrators and security professionals choose the most appropriate prevention and detection methods for their networks.
