AI and the Creative Industries

Julija Kalpokienė · 2024

This chapter initially discusses creativity and authorship to evaluate the threat of human authors being replaced by generative AI or, at the very least, the material incentives for them to engage in creative endeavours being significantly undermined. AI is particularly seen as challenging the heroic account of creativity and rendering the human author vulnerable to the effects of automation. The focus then shifts to the creative industries, including the precariousness of working conditions and the type of competition characteristic of this sector. It is argued that, among human authors, those employed in the creative Industries are likely to be in an especially vulnerable position.
