In this chapter, Cooperative Communication (CC) is used to exploit the advantages of the CC methodology in large-scale mobile ad hoc networks. Large-scale cooperative mobile ad hoc Networks (LC-MANET) face significant problems in terms of energy consumption and network lifespan. High-data-rate networks demand a lot of bandwidth, which raises energy consumption and shortens the network’s lifespan. This chapter suggests a hybrid multi-hop cooperative routing algorithm to optimize network lifetime while reducing energy usage. The network lifespan of a large-scale MANET is extended by mixing clustering and location-based routing techniques. The network is split into clusters as request flow comes, and the clusters under the base station create a community of several cluster members depending on their position. Following the formation of the community, one of the nodes is chosen as the cluster head for the concerned cluster. The number of transmitters and receivers in each hop is optimized using an energy-efficient hybrid cooperative routing algorithm for LC-MANET. Then, in order to reduce end-to-end energy consumption, consider an optimum number of cooperative nodes. The rest of this chapter is carried out as follows: The introduction of cluster routing methods is covered in detail in Section 5.1. Proposed system model described in Section 5.2. Section 5.3 addresses the proposed energy-efficient hybrid cooperative routing and cooperative node optimization. The simulation results are addressed in Section 5.4, and the chapter is concluded in Section 5.5.
