Medical supply chains are required to deliver medical supplies, drugs and clinical trials of standard quality in the right amount and on time to medical institutions. They also have to be transported to the right customers. Thus, it is essential to have a system to monitor the process of supplying and delivering products in a medical supply chain in order to maintain integrity. The objective is to develop an enhanced framework for a medical supply chain that enables monitoring of the drugs and their environmental conditions whilst ensuring integrity of the supply chain. The proposed medical supply chain enhances the drug monitoring process with the help of IoT-based sensors. The log data accumulated by these sensors are used to derive conclusions regarding the quality of the drugs. The system is also equipped with management functions to schedule drug orders and reroute drug deliveries that are at a risk of deterioration. Finally, blockchain technology is used to ensure the security of the data involved in the supply chain. The system was simulated against varying sizes of data to test its performance and reliability.
