A Survey on Iris Recognition Systems in Cross-Spectral Domain

Nisreen Mzehir Al-Kardhi, Ali Mohsin Al-Juboori · 2023

This paper provides a review of the biometrics system of the iris that has drawn far-reaching attention in recent years and applied in various fields such as applications in e-business and e-governance infrastructure and security fields, also a survey of the most recent research that deponed on iris recognition as considered to be the most reliable due to its high accuracy and unique the patterns in eye iris, large challenges when matching Iris images obtained through several domains (sensor/illumination) because different illumination factors result in the near-infrared (NIR) or visible light (VIS) spectral difference between the iris images recorded in single bands, where this causes performance degradation for iris recognition, what research performing during the last few decades that discuss several deep learning and machine learning techniques that have been applied to the creation of iris-based recognition systems. This paper presents a timeline, a technical overview, and a survey of various iris recognition techniques available in the literature to increase iris recognition’s precision in recent years.
