Over the past few years, COVID-19, caused by the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), has become a worldwide threat to public health. The COVID-19 pandemic severely affects humans and causes severe mortality and morbidity in almost every country. However, the development of many vaccines overcomes their effects, but frequent mutations in the coronavirus genome become one of the significant challenges for managing the disease. Due to their antiviral characteristics, plant-based effective alternative molecules such as flavanols and flavanones are effective therapy. Moreover, plant-based bioactive substances such as catechins with pleiotropic effects control various acute and infectious diseases, including viral infections. Plant-derived catechins have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potential and may serve as excellent therapeutic potential against managing SARS-CoV-2 infections. Therefore, in the present chapter, we discuss the anti-SARS-CoV-2 prospects and the mechanisms of action of catechins.
