Examining the Role of Webrtc in Enabling Real-Time Communication Security

Tannu, Monika Sharma · 2024

The requirement for secure and efficient remote work solutions has been increased by the Covid-19 outbreak. One potential technology for this purpose is WebRTC, which allows real-time communication within web browsers without the need to install plugins. Peer-to-peer multimedia communication across different devices is made simpler by it. This includes phone calls, data sharing, and screen sharing. Because WebRTC enables web-based platforms to provide communication functions comparable to those of programs like Skype, it has the potential to close the gap between web and native applications. Web-based learning and collaboration environments can benefit from additional features and capabilities through its integration with established communication protocols such as SIP. However, security and privacy issues must be carefully considered while incorporating WebRTC. In this paper, we provide a technical overview, highlighting the aspects of integrating WebRTC with privacy and security-two critical internet technologies.
