Neutral Host Deployment - A Measurement Study on Routing and Mobility Management Between Public and Private Network

The existing traditional Macro base station deployments (public MNO network) are proven to be good data boosters for outdoor connected users. But in reality, most of the cellular traffics are from indoor users. Also, in recent days, the private 5G deployment is gaining momentum in the most crucial mission-critical and data-demand application environments, such as warehouses and shopping malls. Hence, the private network deployment allows the user to have a dedicated radio resource allocation for their sensitive applications. These private network, in turn, brings cellular coverage both outdoors and indoors. Neutral Host Networking (NHN) is a new concept that bridges the gap between private and public parties to share the same network infrastructure within an organization securely. This work presents the first measurement study of a commercial neutral host network compared to the Private network (PLTE), and Macro cellular network. Furthermore, we observed the throughput fairly shared among the MHN and Private network users in the loaded scenario compared to the traditional Macro deployments. Finally, we validated the performance with applications like YouTube streaming, live video calling through Zoom, and VoIP calls.
