This chapter aims to reexamine notions of “agency” and “agent probabilities” based on breakthroughs in computational neuroscience. It relies on the Free Energy Principle to explicate agency by accounting for how self-organising systems engage in minimising their variational free energy. The significance of temporal thick models is emphasised, and an exploration of the normative dimensions of evidential decision-making and expected utility maximisation for self-organising systems is undertaken.
