Implications of the Enactment of the Special Act on National Resource Security

On February 6, 2024, the National Resource Security Special Act was enacted and promulgated as a special law to effectively respond to the energy and resource security crisis caused by the expansion of global energy and resource uncertainties.As a resource-poor country with a large proportion of manufacturing exports, securing a stable supply chain is crucial for Korea.However, in a context in which trade wars intensify, economic blockades are imposed, major countries weaponize their resources, and geopolitical crises continue, the special law was enacted to respond to resource security crises more systematically and effectively.This study provides an outline and examines the structure of the National Resource Security Special Act and explains its significance for Korea's economy and energy and resource supply and demand.
