Quality in localization
Miguel A. Jiménez-Crespo · 2024
This chapter reviews Localization Quality Analysis (LQA) and testing from both the language industry and TS (Translation Studies) perspectives. It discusses key issues involved in defining quality and implementing quality evaluation models. It will present an overview of typical LQA processes, stages, main constraints, and limitations. It introduces concepts such as internal and external quality or error severity. It then describes standardized quality models and error categorizations, such as MQM (Multidimensional Quality Metrics) and Dynamic Quality Framework (DQF). The chapter concludes with a discussion of error-based evaluation methods and an example of an error typology for localization (Jiménez-Crespo 2011a).
