Novel Construction and Decoding of Polar Product Codes with SPC Codes

This paper proposes a novel product coding and decoding method for polar codes by choosing the single parity-check (SPC) codes as the second component codes. The study explores both the systematic and non-systematic forms of product codes, based on different coding methods of SPC codes. Moreover, a bit-flipped iterative decoding method of the product codes is proposed. The simulation results show that there is a gain of 0.3∼0.8 dB compared with transmitting polar codes directly. Additionally, the proposed scheme exhibits more robust performance gains with a reduction in computational complexity of over 60% when compared with the classic polar product codes.
