The Core and Ecosystem of Generative AI

In this chapter, we look into the core technologies and ecosystem of generative AI, including advanced machine learning models like generative adversarial networks, variational autoencoders, and transformers. We also explore the role of recurrent neural networks and reinforcement learning in fine-tuning large language models. We emphasize the importance of understanding these technologies, likening it to knowing the ingredients in cooking. Such knowledge is crucial not only for enriching the experience but also for discerning facts from fiction, especially in the age of deepfakes. Understanding the technicalities allows for a more informed skepticism towards AI-generated content, while also unlocking innovative applications in various fields.
