This chapter presents a comprehensive review of the applications of the IoT and digital twin technologies in energy management in electrical power systems. The chapter highlights how IoT and the digital twin technologies can enable effective energy management by optimizing, controlling, and monitoring energy consumption. For instance, in smart homes, IoT devices are monitoring and managing the consumption of energy, while in smart buildings, digital twin can be utilized to optimize energy usage and reduce costs. Similarly, smart grids can leverage the IoT and digital twin technologies for improved monitoring and control of energy distribution. Furthermore, the chapter outlines the challenges and opportunities associated with implementing digital twin and IoT technologies for effective management of energy. Some identified challenges include data privacy and security concerns, integration with legacy systems, and the need for skilled professionals. The chapter concludes by giving future recommendations for research in this area, emphasizing the need for interdisciplinary collaboration and developing new digital twin and IoT solutions to address these challenges.
