The architecture of sound studios
Even Smith Wergeland · 2024
This chapter explores the sound studio as a building type and venue for musical creativity, made possible by advanced technology. Through this exploration, the architectural perspectives that underpin the remainder of book are presented, explained and critically digested alongside other scholarly preconditions for the empirical studies that follow. The chapter examines the architecture of sound studios in light of sound studio history, typological characteristics, the human dimension, atmospheres and material conditions. The last part of the chapter constitutes a bridge to the geographical analyses that follow in Chapter 2 , with a particular emphasis on the sound studio as place.
