The number of crimes committed on the Indian subcontinent is gradually increasing which is concerning. But, on the brighter side, so is the number of cases reported or the FIR filed against crimes that are duly mentioned in the criminal law. With every FIR report filed, the corresponding IPC code and Section is assigned to the crime to begin with further proceedings. Assigning these IPC codes requires in-depth knowledge of the crime as well as a mind with sharp memory to reduce the chances of human error, if any. To minimize such errors and produce the result within a minimum time duration, NLP technology is used in this system. This technology concentrates its focus on text identification and classification. The proposed system strategically incorporates advanced techniques such as tokenization and stemming to enhance the accuracy of crime-related keyword identification from FIR reports. Using this concept, certain relevant words are identified, extracted, and classified and then mapped with the keywords associated with the crime from the dataset. Once, the keywords are matched, the associated IPC codes are generated.
