Design of Hardwired Control Unit Using Reversible Gates for RISC Architecture Based Processor

V. Rama Devi, Jadapalli Sreedhar · 2023

In today’s world, with the advancements in the VLSI technology, we are able to integrate more and more devices on single chip this increases the chip complexity. Due to the high density of the chip, the power dissipation becomes major concern for design. Reversible logic has drawn a lot of interest recently as a means of easing power issues. By recovering bit loss from its special input-output mapping, it uses less energy. The Control Unit's central processing unit (CPU) plays a crucial role in governing the operations of a computer's processor. This paper introduces a reversible Hardwired control unit, which encompasses novel components like the reversible decoder and J-K flip-flop. These elements are built using two innovative 4x4 reversible gates called the HL gate and BJ gate. Their combined functionality allows for effective control over the processor's operations. Specially created hardware logical circuits produce the control signals necessary for instruction execution control. The results of comparing these circuits with the conventionally built circuits are displayed.
