Quality of Service Based Performance Evaluation of Controllers in Software Defined Networks

Lokesh Pawar, Gaurav Bathla, Rohit Bajaj · 2023

Controllers are deployed on the control layer of the Software Defined Architecture. Each controller has vital functionalities according to the topologies and traffic of the network. The controller displays different types of performance while used under different topologies. The controllers are fed with a snippet of the code which is under a planned process and the controller start serving according to the code snippet. In this paper a comparison of open source controllers POX, NOX, BEACON, RYU, Floodlight and Opendaylight is simulated in Mininet SDN emulator. The QoS parameters are Round Trip Time (RTT), Average Delay, Jitter, Bitrate, Throughput, Loss of Packets and Latency. The results show that Opendaylight with 95% confidence level tops the list of the controllers in heavy traffic network, rest no significant change in performance is recorded..
