Structured Query Language (SQL) is the standard programming language for managing and manipulating data stored in relational databases. It is used by organizations of all sizes and in various industries to store, retrieve, and analyze data. This chapter discusses two flavors of SQL, such as Data Definition Language and Data Manipulation Language . Transaction control languages (TCLs) manage multiple database changes as a single unit of work called a transaction . The chapter describes some of the most commonly used TCL commands. ACID stands for Atomicity, Consistency, Isolation, and Durability. It is a set of principles that ensure the reliability and consistency of data in database transactions. The chapter explains the ACID principles and describes the importance of scripting and runtime location for efficient database operations.
