Currently, a lot of progress can be seen in the area of the Internet of Things (IoT). Several challenges can be overcome and many mitigation techniques can be implemented using Software-Defined Networks (SDNs) and controllers within IoT in emerging technologies. Concepts such as wireless home automation, medical devices, vehicular networks, and others are implemented in IoT devices. Security standards are often neglected when releasing the latest IoT products in the market since it is hard to research every possible vulnerability. IoT devices have sensitive and important information, and security-related issues have therefore come into the picture. To enhance the security of these kinds of devices, a lot of effort is put in. A single application called the ‘SDN Controller’ allows for overall network management in the cloud-based SDN, a potential advancement in computer network technology. Therefore, utilizing an SDN is an obvious way to enhance IoT networking performance. This chapter presents a framework to use SDN along with IoT networks effectively to overcome many challenges. This chapter offers techniques to mitigate man-in-the-middle attacks, software vulnerabilities, data leakages in IoT systems, malware risks, and cyber-attacks against IoT, which are implemented in the proposed framework using Raspberry Pi and cloud-based SDNs.
