The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to a fast-growing technology that can identify actual happenings that are taking place in the physical world. IoT devices expose the private real-world data they collect because they lack a single security standard and frequently use weak security measures. However, not all security issues in IoT systems can be resolved by using conventional cryptographic techniques. Covert wireless communication is a security measure for IoT devices that prevents an attacker from learning about a user’s transmission. Authentication, digital signature, and other cryptosystems based on the public key infrastructure sometimes make use of a covert channel to communicate in secret. The content of sent encrypted data is unknown to anybody other than the sender and the intended recipient. This review looks at the protocols, privacy concerns, and security flaws that are integral to the IoT, as well as the strategies utilized in covert communication. Finally, the strengths and weaknesses of various IoT security approaches are discussed.
