Future Fixed and Mobile Services

Toni Janevski · 2024

Chapter 8 is dedicated to future fixed and mobile services. It incorporates future voice services, such as voice over NR (VoNR) and OTT voice. Broadband speeds in fixed and mobile networks are mainly used for video services, so Chapter 8 covers future TV/IPTV, including 5G broadcast and Multicast and Broadcast System (MBS), and emerging eXtended Reality (XR) including Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR). Further, it also includes telecom and OTT massive IoT services, and critical IoT/AI services including Industrial IoT, Smart City, and V2X. Chapter 8 continues with future OTT services, including future Web and metaverse, and covers network neutrality of open Internet versus QoS and QoE. Digitalization of services from the real physical world to the cyber world is leading to development of digital markets. Hence, Chapter 8 finally includes future digital economy and markets, as well as the regulatory challenges for future telecom and OTT services.
