The proposed research work is a part of 2-D positioning in a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). More precisely, the proposed digital scheme for optimizing the conventional TDOA which will be exposed in the following paragraphs to discuss about the low capacity wireless communication equipment (limited memory, reduced processing speed, insufficient memory, etc.). For this reason, the localization of stationary and/or mobile wireless nodes will be always a promising interest of several research teams. Conventionally, the position of a sensor node is generally calculated by one of the following methods: Time of Arrival (TOA), Received Signal (RSS), Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) and Angle of Arrival (AOA). Using these conventional methods, the estimated position is provided by using complicated calculations that are generally developed in software and then executed by the microprocessor of the concerned device. In this paper, we develop a Simple Digital Design (SDD) to optimize TDOA algorithm for an accurate localization at the cost of low energy consumption. SSD uses iterative additions and shifts to estimate the node location. SSD can be easily implemented in hardware devices like an FPGA.
