The Internet of Things (IoT) rapidly integrates physical objects with the internet, enabling data sharing, but its swift expansion poses substantial security challenges. These include a lack of established protocols and the imperative to safeguard private data. Researchers have devised security methods, such as enhanced Transport Layer Security (TLS) and machine learning-based device identification, to address these issues, focusing on data packet integrity and secrecy during transmission. This paper review thoroughly examines these problems, with an emphasis on power efficiency, privacy, scalability, and interoperability. The paper underscores the necessity of securing data packets within the IoT environment and highlights the flaws in current security approaches. Recent IoT security developments encompass enhancements in wireless networks, security considerations in 5G IoT, and innovative strategies for safeguarding IoT communications. The paper also surveys ongoing advancements, encompassing innovative IoT security systems, cognitive wireless networks, and security measures integrating Signal-to-Interference-plus-Noise Ratio (SINR) research within 5G IoT networks, combining Software-Defined Networking (SDN) with Manufacturer Usage Description (MUD) policies for intrusion detection. The paper concludes by stressing the value of continuous research, advocating best practices and industry standards to encourage broader IoT device adoption and mitigate vulnerabilities in the IoT landscape. Its goal is to comprehensively assess the present state of IoT security, addressing both challenges and opportunities in the IoT ecosystem while advocating for a comprehensive IoT security paradigm.
