Performance Analysis of Edge Node in IoT Network

Zaineb Naaz, Vidushi Sharma · 2024

The proliferation of IoT nodes generates vast amounts of data, necessitating innovative solutions for efficient processing, analysis, and decision-making. By bringing computation closer to the data source, edge computing emerges as a promising technique to address the latency and bandwidth challenges inherent in traditional cloud centric IoT architectures. However, some challenges still need to be addressed in the edge computing paradigm. In this paper, we have analyzed the performance of edge node concerning the varying number of IoT nodes by considering data load, data processing time and energy consumption of edge node as performance indices. Simulation results, illuminate the relationship between network size (total number of sensor nodes in the network) and the performance of edge node. This analysis offers insights into determining the optimal number of edge nodes for a network, considering the specific performance requirements of the system.
