To evaluate how Sedum cover and water availability effect spontaneous plant biomass and both species and functional richness, we conducted a 10-month experiment in green roof microcosms sown with a mix of 14 plant species that commonly occur as spontaneous species on green roofs. We measured species abundance, biomass, and functional traits (specific leaf area, leaf dry matter content, and relative growth rate), and calculated species and functional richness.
