Fast Food Phishing
Alastair Blackett, Cherie Chun Mei Mak · 2024
Phishing attacks are an attack vector for cyber espionage against governments, as can be seen in the case of a phishing attack launched against US government employees disguised as a fast-food marketing exercise. Cyber espionage involves the use of misleading information planted by the hacker to attract the user to click on attached links. Phishing is a scheme that makes the person who clicks on the email links or attachments do all the work for the hacker. This case explores the effect of phishing for cyber espionage on the US government, as well as the implications of security strategies that call for collaboration between the private and public sectors.
