The rapid growth of Internet of Things (IoT) devices has brought about significant security challenges in ensuring secure and efficient authentication within IoT networks. Traditional centralized authentication systems are vulnerable to various security threats such as Man-in-the-Middle attacks, phishing, and lack of scalability. Blockchain can be used to verify the authenticity of applications, reducing the effectiveness of phishing attempts and stop MitM attacks outright. In this paper, we propose an improved private blockchain-based secure authentication scheme with fog nodes for IoT networks. The proposed scheme leverages the decentralized and tamper-resistant nature of blockchain technology to enhance the security and privacy of authentication processes. Additionally, we integrate fog nodes, which brings computation and storage capabilities closer to IoT devices, to improve performance and reduce latency. This scheme provides efficient and secure authentication for resource constrained IoT devices, ensuring data integrity, confidentiality, and authentication integrity. The architecture and design principles of our proposed scheme are highlighted, along with its key features and advantages over existing authentication methods. Through extensive evaluation and comparative analysis, we demonstrate the scalability and security improvements achieved by our scheme. The findings show that our scheme effectively addresses the limitations of traditional authentication approaches and offers a viable solution for secure and efficient authentication in IoT networks.
