Efficient Virtual Machine Provisioning Techniques in Cloud Computing: A Systematic Review

Manik Chandra Pandey, Pradeep Singh Rawat · 2023

Cloud computing has attracted a great deal of attention as a result of the growing service demands of businesses that outsource computationally intensive tasks to the data center. Meanwhile, the infrastructure of a data center is comprised of hardware resources that consume a great deal of energy and release harmful levels of carbon dioxide. Since the number of modern applications and organizations continues to increase, cloud data centers consume huge quantities of electrical energy. To prevent resource waste and improve energy efficiency, virtual machines (VMs) must be dispersed over numerous Physical Machines (PMs) in a cloud data center. The objective of cloud service providers is to reduce operational expenses by lowering energy utilization while still offering clients with competitive services. The aforementioned objectives can be accomplished by reducing the number of active servers, employing live VM migrations, and keeping system performance at the SLA-required levels. While virtual machines play a crucial role in enhancing the performance of data centers, several strategies are applied to boost virtual machine efficiency (e.g., resource and task load balancing). The key virtual machine factors, including makespan, quality of service, energy, data accuracy, and network utilization, are addressed to enhance performance. Changes to numerous VM characteristics boost cloud computing performance quickly. As a result, we are doing this thorough review of the state of art methodologies to examine the numerous technological breakthroughs made in VM's provisioning techniques.
