MODIFYING LOW FREQUENCY ROOM ACOUSTICS 1: LOCAL ACTIVE DE-REVERBERATION

M. R. Avis, Paul Darlington · 2024

The low frequency modes of small rooms introduce undesirable coloration to sound reproduced within them. This paper describes methods to remove this coloration by actively cancelling the reverberant eld at a listening position -a process which has been termed dereverberation. The control achieved is local to the designated listening point and fails at atherpoints within the space. The volume over which acceptable tie-reverberation is achieved is demonstrated to be in uenced by the mode shapes, by source positionng relative to the mode shapes and by equency.
