The rise of the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) has revolutionized the healthcare industry by enabling personalized monitoring systems that make analyzing patients’ health easier than ever before. But with this technological advancement comes a growing concern: how to secure patients’ data? The existing access control mechanisms for Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled devices have proven inadequate in protecting medical data from unauthorized access. Thus, integrating blockchain technology into novel security systems has become a potential solution to this issue. By integrating blockchain technology into IoMT systems, it is possible to ensure that only registered individuals can access patients’ data, thereby preserving data confidentiality and security. This chapter delves into the current access control mechanisms, their limitations, and how blockchain technology can overcome them. It also provides a deep analysis of the role of blockchain technology in ensuring privacy and security in the era of IoT-enabled personalized healthcare. It is important to recognize that more investigation and progress are required in this domain to completely leverage the capabilities of IoMT and blockchain in customized healthcare.
