Python Logic

Chris Roda · 2024

Python logic must not only navigate computational flow but must also be easy to use and visually organized. Python achieves this organization through the use of code blocks. Code blocks are identified with indentations of four white spaces and avoids additional character clutter. Branching flow logic is handled with conditional if statements. Combined with additional elif and else statements, if statements can branch logic flow into multiple directions. There are two Python looping structures: while and for loops. While loops are used when flow needs to repeat indefinitely. For loops are used when flow is required to repeat a specific number of times. Since both structures produce similar results, their use is subjective. Two additional sample scripts are supplied in this chapter. The first script is an alternative review of the geometry creation script presented in chapter 7. The second script ties together all of the Python concepts introduced so far.
