With the increasing proportion of new energy in the power system, the impact of the fluctuation of new energy output power on the power system cannot be ignored. In the new energy power stations, the energy storage (ES for short) system and the new energy generator can work together to effectively smooth the active power output of the new energy power generation system and improve the power quality, which plays a very important role in the efficient, stable operation and safe grid connection of the new energy power generation system. The gravity ES system has the characteristics of simple principle, long service life, and is not affected by geography and temperature, which is extremely suitable for application in the cold regions in northern China. According to the characteristics and ES requirements of new energy power stations, a gravity energy storage matrix system (GESMS for short) composed of multiple ES units is introduced, and the network topology of this system and the new energy generators is designed. On this basis, the charging and discharging and safety coordination control strategy between the GESMS and the new energy generators is designed to realize the coordinated operation of the GESMS and the new energy power stations.
