Mobile Ad Hoc network (MANET), a wireless network that connects a collection of mobile devices without having any rigid infrastructure. The transmission rate of data is closely linked to the stability, quality and reliability of any type of network. It is known that the cross-layer approach has been used to transmit information between all possible layers of a network. So, if this cross layered approach is deployed in MANETS, the performance of the network, in terms of transmission rate, can be enhanced significantly.Keeping this in view, this proposed research work is triggered to analyze the performance of a MANET along with the cross-layered approach. The experimental evaluation has been done to prove the performance enhancement by implementing the cross-layer approach with a combination of Adaptive Auto-Rate Fallback (AARF), Collision-Aware Rate Adaptation (CARA), Ideal Rate Adaptation, Minstrel-HT Rate Control Algorithm, Onoe Rate Adaptation with various routing protocols like Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV), Destination-Sequenced Distance-Vector Routing (DSDV), Dynamic Source Routing (DSR), and Optimized Link State Routing Protocol (OLSR).MANET performance has been evaluated using QoS metrics such as throughput, goodput, packet delivery ratio (PDR), and the end-to-end delay. The proposed research work and comparative analysis have been carried out in Ad hoc mode in the network simulator NS-3 under various circumstances.
