A Novel Technique for Hand Gesture Recognition

Kumud Sachdeva, Rajan Sachdeva · 2023

The research on human computer interaction (HCI) in recent years has been limited to methods based on the usage of a graphics display, keyboard, mouse, joystick, etc. The interaction has developed from punched cards, which were only used by experts, to the graphical interface paradigm. The interaction with a graphical user interface involves pointing a device directly at graphic items like windows and icons. With the advent of systems based on recognition of vision, sound, speech, projective displays, etc., this tendency has recently shifted, offering a far deeper and natural way of interaction between humans and machines. Most computer programmes need to be more interactive in order to be used effectively. As a result, over the past few years, HCI research has been very active. In a similar vein, numerous gesture recognition systems have been developed and put into use for effective HCI, and ongoing research is being done to strengthen these systems. The design, implementation, and analysis of a single hand gesture recognition system is compared with graphical representation. The innovation of the suggested hand gesture recognition system resides in the gesture recognition that was carried out based on three innovative and effective features of the human hand, namely the quantity of flaws, the hand’s orientation, and its movement. The suggested method has been put into practice and tested for several desktop programmes, including the VLC media player. Thus, the proposed method contributes to the development of an effective, understandable hand gesture recognition system.
