An Algorithm for Generating Synthetic Distribution Grids based on Edrös-Rényi Random Graph Model
Mohammad Shahraeini · 2023
The distribution grids are essential components of smart grids, enabling demand response management and the integration of renewable sources. Such grids can be classified into two main categories: radial and network, with the former being the most common and widely used type. The power grids, including distribution networks, can be represented as graphs. In distribution grids, the graph of radial grids is a tree, meaning there is only one path between any two nodes in the graph. This research proposes an algorithm that can create synthetic distribution graphs similar to radial distribution networks using one of the most well-known models of random graphs, the Edrös model. Simulation results for three different graph sizes of 15, 20, and 35 vertices show that the proposed algorithm has good potential for generating small-sized synthetic distribution graphs (up to 35 vertices). The similarity of the produced synthetic grids to radial distribution networks has been demonstrated using metrics based on degree centrality.
