The development of artificial intelligence and robots

Xavier Oberson · Edward Elgar Publishing eBooks · 2024

Chapter 2 describes briefly the development of AI and robotics and its potential impact on the economy and the labor market. There are notably two schools of thought: the optimists and the pessimists. The author is not in a position to define who is right or wrong on the potential impact of AI on the labor market and the economy but argues that we have to find and analyze alternatives today in order to deal with the consequences from the pessimists’ scenario. Taxing AI, including robots, appears to be one of the most interesting alternatives. The book will demonstrate that this solution is both justified and feasible.
