PUF Based Authentication Protocol in Blockchain Enabled Wireless Medical Monitoring System

B Shivagangatharani, M. Syed Rabiya · 2023

The Medical Monitoring system (MM system), using wireless sensor networks, helps doctors track patients' physical condition via wireless communication technology from anywhere. The data in the MM system are more sensitive. It may be misused while transferring it because of the insecure open communication between patients and medical representatives (MRs). The MM system has several issues with security and privacy. A successive medical monitoring system must need a solid authentication protocol to ensure legitimate user access. Many researchers proposed different authentication protocols for the MM system, but some of these approaches do not guarantee security and privacy in the MM system. In this article, we propose a robust authentication protocol for the blockchain-enabled MM system to authenticate MRs. This protocol is a combination of the blockchain technology and physically unclonable function (PUF). Finally, an informal and formal security analysis and the comparative analysis of communication and computation costs with previous protocols are presented.
