The Internet of Things (IoT) is a modern computing model which refers to the interconnection of physical devices or IoT devices containing actuators, sensors, and networks, enabling them in connecting, communicating, and sharing of data. Many security concerns have been found while sharing sensitive data with the rising use of IoT devices. One of the reliability issues is authentication. In this IoT world, authentication is a challenging task due to the complexity of devices, topologies, and protocols. The IoT systems communicating with each other have to be trustworthy so as to prevent numerous forms of security attacks. Due to the limited storage, memory, and low processing power of IoT applications, there is a need in updating authentication schemes for use. This paper primarily focuses on the analysis of some newest authentication schemes designed for the IoT environment. There are 28 authentication protocols analyzed and presented in this paper with their applications, advantages and disadvantages which gives a future direction to the researchers in the field of IoT authentication.
