Radio Text data decoding of FM broadcast signal using Matlab

The Radio Data System (RDS) has been in existence since 1980’s in Europe, and the early 1990’s in North America as the Radio Broadcast Data System (RBDS). It is a power-efficient solution with a wide range of applications in devices such as handsets, portable radios, music/media players etc. It conveys audio programs as well as detailed information regarding FM broadcast services. One such application is Radio Text Data. By improving and integrating this feature of RDS, data transmission in Sonobuoy can be done effectively. This paper describes the recovery of Radio Text Data of RDS signal using Adalm Pluto SDR module. Applications like Sonobuoy communication, buoy-based surveillance systems etc. can be used for RF transmission.
