Threat Modeling Framework for UEs in 5G

Rajeev Ranjan Prasad, Ankita Kumari · 2023

With the advent of 5G, the demands like higher data speed with lower latency are no more major issues in the ecosphere of UEs connectivity and connection. However, it has also opened new security risks as it provides a greater attack surface and complex architecture related to supply chain association. In this paper, we analyzed the risks for the UEs connected with the 5G network using the STRIDE model and tried to fill the gaps of existing research where they only considered the 5G functional aspects. We have considered the assets like network connectors, radio frequency spectrum, computing power, memory storage, battery efficiency, antenna cluster, etc. We have identified the threat agents specifying who could the potential attackers and how they can invade the system with their malicious intention. Further, with our experimental analysis, multiple risk tables have been shown in this paper to leverage the impact and likelihood of attack for each asset.
