Counterfeit currency refers to unauthorized replica money produced with the intent to deceive. This issue has been on the rise in our country, with frequent reports of such fraudulent activities. The proliferation of technology, including computers, photocopiers, and scanners, has made counterfeiting currency notes increasingly accessible. Currently, we lack robust methods to distinguish between counterfeit and genuine currency. Addressing this pressing issue requires a range of solutions, including hardware-related techniques, chemical methods, and computer/software-based approaches. In this paper, we focus on software-based techniques and introduce four methods based on image processing principles for counterfeit currency detection: the brute force algorithm, HSV value detector, Haar cascade classifier, and security stripe detection using SURF.
