A Novel Pattern for Searching Motion Vector in Interframe Coding

Rahul Bhandari, Hemant Kumar Saini, Sanjay Singla · 2023

Interframe coding is a highly effective method for compressing video data, especially when consecutive frames exhibit strong visual similarities or when motion follows predictable patterns, facilitated by motion estimation. This technique achieves significant compression while preserving the perceived video quality. Prominent video codecs that utilize interframe compression include H.264, H.265 (High Efficiency Video Coding), and others. In this research paper, an innovative pattern has introduced to improve rapid block motion estimation used in inter frame coding. When compared to previously employed patterns in block motion estimation, our newly proposed pattern excels in identifying motion vectors and requires fewer search points. It surpasses established methods, particularly in motion vector search tasks. This study highlights how the suggested pattern reduces the number of required search points compared to previous techniques, ultimately enhancing the accuracy of motion vector estimation.
