In this paper, a square calculator has been implemented by employing one of the Vedic sutras with the help of Quantum-dot Cellular Automata (QCA) technology. It is well known that the complexity can be reduced by using Vedic sutras when designing multipliers. We have used ‘Urdhva-Tiryagbhyam’ to implement a square calculator. First, a standard 2-bit square calculator (SC1) has been developed with a QCA layout. Furthermore, using the most recent XOR gate, an optimized 2-bit square calculator (SC2) has been implemented. Later, a 4-bit square calculator (SC3) has also been developed using the aforementioned Vedic sutra. The proposed designs have a smaller number of Quantum cells, area, and delay compared to the existing models. The energy and power dissipation have also been calculated for the proposed models which proves that the proposed models SC2 and SC3 would be the best among the existing ones. The power dissipation of the proposed 2-bit and 4-bit square calculator is 1.79nW and 4.36nW respectively.
