The pervasive and escalating utilisation of digital images has elevated the significance of image encryption as a crucial concern, garnering considerable attention from numerous researchers. Regrettably, the development and study of fast encryption schemes for colour images is currently lacking. This paper proposes a new strategy for developing a secure and efficient multi-key image-based bit-level colour image encryption system utilising chaotic maps. The method begins by performing a bit-plane separation operation on each colour image component. Utilising a Logistic chaotic map (LM), the bit-planes are subsequently reorganised. In the subsequent phase of the operation, the key images are generated by employing an additional LM system with unique key parameters. Next, bit-planes for each of the key images are generated. The bit-planes are then shuffled by an additional LM system. During the final phase, the rearranged bit-planes of the original images are combined with the rearranged bit-planes of the key images through a bit-XOR operation. Ultimately, the encrypted output is produced by combining all the dispersed bit-planes. Separate LM systems with numerous key images in each encryption stage increase algorithm security. A simple LM system and complicated bit-plane level permutations and diffusing operation boost algorithm safety and effectiveness. Simulation outcomes and security evaluations show that the proposed method encrypts images securely and effectively.
