A clean atmosphere is unquestionably one of the most important parts of daily life. The majority of higher education institutions in Sri Lanka have dustbins around them. Whether those bins are actually used to properly gather waste and dispose of it when it has to be is up for debate. Additionally, some of the containers are inadequate. As a result, there will be some air pollution and health problems that students and the staff of the institutions will have to deal with. Separate consideration must be given to maintaining a healthy atmosphere. In this study, a smart dustbin and garbage monitoring system are designed and put into place using Internet of Things (IoT) technology. The suggested solution is made up of a smart dustbin and a monitoring system. The GSM module and wireless sensor technology were used in the development of a reliable and affordable dustbin. The ESP32 microcontroller connects sensors, modules, and hardware. The system detects wet or dry garbage, displays its level, and sends a message to the cleaning authority when the bin is full. At the end, all the sensor data was sent to the cloud platform and saved in the database for further analysis. Therefore, the system will help improve health and the environment. It also provides information for decision-making and improves waste management.
