Syed Arif Islam, M. Mohankumar, Umma Khatuna Jannat · 2023

In the rapidly evolving digital landscape, safeguarding web applications against malicious attacks has become paramount. Web Application Firewalls (WAFs) have emerged as a crucial defense mechanism, providing protection against a range of threats. This research presents a comprehensive comparative study aimed at assessing the efficacy of various WAF solutions. The evaluation is based on the two critical metrics of Security Coverage (True Positive Rate) and Precision (False Positive Rate), both of which significantly influence the ability of WAFs to accurately differentiate between malicious and legitimate requests. The study employs real-world datasets and employs a Python-based test tool for methodological rigor. The results offer valuable insights into the performance of distinct WAF solutions, enhan understanding of the real-world effectiveness.
